Living in Kirkland

Just east of Seattle, Kirkland’s abundance of charming shops and outdoor space offers residents a little room to breath from the cosmopolitan craziness that is Seattle. Located on the northwest edge of Kirkland, resident Leigh Anne Lynch characterizes Kirkland as the epitome of “family-oriented fun.” With two kids of her own, she describes a quintessential afternoon as “driving kids to lots of activities” but notes that Kirkland’s convenience factor to a variety of resources like restaurants, shopping and entertainment makes it a piece of cake. And with the addition of Kirkland Urban, an open-air shopping center which will open in fall 2019, Kirkland’s shopping experiences are unlimited.

Schools

An extremely family friendly town, Kirkland exhibits a high-performing school district complete with 29 elementary schools, seven middle schools and four high schools. The Lake Washington School District is supported by nearly 15,000 volunteers annually as well as a team of extraordinary teachers and dedicated parents.

Food

After school or work, enjoy Kirkland’s array of charismatic restaurants. Outdoors
Joy Corbin, a resident of the Finn Hill neighborhood, states that the amazing access to local parks is her favorite thing about living in Kirkland. She explains that “not too far from [her] house you can find places to: day hike, mountain bike, leisurely bike a scenic trail, launch your kayak or SUP, play at the beach, or have your dog play at the dog park.” The boundless options for hiking, walking and biking as well as the variety of water activities bustling about will have you trying all kinds of new and fun things!

Nightlife
The party doesn’t stop when the sun goes down though! Downtown Kirkland has ample bars and fun places to get your groove on. Plus it’s a mere five minute walk to Lake Washington if you want to soak in some views before your night draws to a close. The summers are a hotspot for various daytime and nighttime activities such as community concerts featuring a plethora of food trucks.
