How to Renovate Your Garage

Take a minute and go look at your garage. What do you feel when you look at it? Is it an amazing garage in great condition or is it looking run-down, cluttered, and in desperate need of some help?

If your garage is more like the latter than the former, it may be time to renovate it. So how should you do that?

Get New Flooring

Concrete flooring is pretty standard for garages, but if your concrete floor is cracked or damaged, it needs some of your attention. At a minimum, you should have it resurfaced. Replacing it may make more sense, depending on the extent of the damage.

You don’t have to limit yourself to a plain concrete floor if you don’t want to. Consider epoxying your concrete garage floor to make it less susceptible to staining and add some extra visual appeal.

Replace Your Door

Time will take its toll on your garage door. Sooner or later, you’ll need to replace it. Not only does this boost your home’s curb appeal, but it can also increase its safety too. Garage doors lead to 30,000 injuries every year.

Having a faulty door is sure to increase the risk of injury. Consider replacing your garage door with an insulated steel door rather than one made from wood or aluminum. This will make your garage more climate-controlled and energy-efficient.

Upgrade Your Storage

So many of us treat our garages as built-in storage units. Make storage easier and more organized by upgrading your storage as a part of your garage renovations. You could add built-in shelving, storage systems, lockers, peg boards, and more. The options are endless. Carefully measure the space in your garage when creating your storage plans. You don’t want to end up purchasing things you don’t have room for. Maximize your storage space by using it as effectively as possible, including your ceiling space. There are some great overhead garage storage options you can incorporate, depending on the space you have, where you park your vehicle, and what else you intend to store in your garage.

Renovating your garage is a great way to increase the enjoyment you get from it, the utility it offers, and the value it contributes to your home. Take a look around your garage and identify the different parts of it that could use some work. From there, prioritize the projects so you know where to focus your attention and efforts. Your garage has so much potential. It’s time to realize it.
